This time we would love for you to get to know our wonderful editor Jenna. She came to us from what seems out of no where, but we couldn’t have been happier that she found her way to us! We are always looking for people to join us in our internship program! If you or anyone you know are interested make sure to drop us a line about yourself to our email studio@479.ff6.myftpupload.com. We would love to hear from you! We hope you enjoy learning a little about this wonderful woman!

A little about Jenna

I was born in Monterey, California and was fortunate enough to be raised by talented and hard-working parents who have single-handedly maintained their own custom jewelry store in Carmel for almost 40 years now! I grew up with an equally talented and hard-working older sister, Lauren, who will always be my role model. She introduced me to the world of dark room photography during the time she studied under black & white photographer Henry Gilpin.

I moved to San Diego a year and a half ago and am completely in love with the city. The move was actually a giant risk because I did not have a job lined up which was frowned upon by nearly everyone I told. But I was motivated to make it work. The only person I knew was my cousin who I would be renting a room from located near some place called “The Gaslamp”. I packed my car and drove down at 1am with a mattress (securely) strapped to my roof.

After a year and a half of working hard to make my humble dreams come to life and also exploring America’s Finest City (saying YES to as many fun opportunities as possible), I can see myself living and thriving in San Diego for a long time to come.

Jenna’s background with photography

With such a gorgeous location as the backdrop of my childhood (and Big Sur, my favorite place in the world, being right around the corner), it was a no-brainer to have an interest in capturing the peninsula’s beauty. Deep down I am a science nerd and my dad’s National Geographic collection was a major inspiration. I dreamed of exploring space, caves, rainforests, and even hearing the hooves of wild horses thundering across plains.

My mom was always enthusiastic about documenting childhood moments with my sister and friends and I – She easily went through a few rolls of film during birthday parties and always had the camera out with a fresh roll inside for anyone to use.

My interest in photography grew with age – I started learning the daunting ropes of darkroom photography in high school which was my favorite class to date. That’s when my curiosity exploded and I carried a film camera around with me and loved to capture impromptu shots with my buddies around campus. Later, I took every photography course in college and was ecstatic to purchase my own Canon G9 in 2006 which is still alive and kicking. I explored alternative types of photography including Holga, Fisheye, and Lomography. (Pre-Instagram filters!)

After college I worked for a wedding photographer who happened to photograph album covers for rock and roll musicians back in the 60’s and 70’s including The Doors, BB King, Joni Mitchell and The Who and attended the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival where Jimi Hendrix infamously set fire to his guitar. This experience was an excellent introduction to what it takes to run a photography-based business. The learning curve was taken to the next level when I started working with France Photographers.

Why Jenna loves about working with France Photographers

I can’t say enough positive things about Sara, Jessica, and Rachel! I would love to surround my apartment with their stunning photographs. I am such a fan of their unique yet timeless styles but more so, their unconditional love for their clients and all of the wonderful people they choose to have in their lives – some of the coolest people I’ve met to date. I love the work dynamic and get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about the opportunity I have to work with with such inspirational women and their craft.
