Dressing for an Engagement Session

What do I wear to my engagement session?!

If you don’t know where to start, this can be a hard question to answer! We have photographed hundreds of engagement sessions, and have found a few key points that make picking outfits for your shoot much easier!

What is your location?

If you are planning to have your engagement photos taken in a brewery, wearing a formal dress and tux wouldn’t make sense! You would stick out like a sore thumb, not to mention the funny looks you would be getting! Know your location, and dress appropriately. We love when couples make one of their outfits something they are comfortable in. Sometimes that means a sports jersey, a flannel or maybe your favorite pair of Toms!

What colors do you want to use?

Think about what you like to wear, what you look good in, and start there! There is nothing wrong with wearing your favorite dress for your engagement photos, instead of buying something new. If you feel confident, do your thing! We recommend sticking to a base color (denim, black, etc.) and about two more colors. Mixing too many colors can look busy and distract from your beautiful faces! It’s also a good rule of thumb to not mix patterns. This can look crowded and clash.
Remember, these are just guidelines, and there are always exceptions to the rule! Don’t be afraid to add in some fun, quirky ideas! Remember to be yourself and make it personal!
